I don't know about going from curly to straight hair, but I do know that as a young child I had stick straight hair, until I was about 12. I started out with longer straight hair, then I cut it to shoulder length, then I cut it really short, like a boy's haircut. I let it grow after that, and put layers in it, and ever since then I have curly hair. Even growing it longer hasn't helped make it straight again. I did go to the salon and have it straightened a few times, but I hate to put chemicals in my hair, so now I have learned to like my curly hair. This guy will just have to live with his curls. Or do what my brother does, have a short almost military butch cut, and it'll be too short to curl. Good luck.

I noticed you said that you want a loose perm like a body wave... errr.... body wave is not a loose perm at all, they are very very tight curls that make your hair look like a poodle... if you want your hair to behave and be manageable and healthy looking, I would suggest not getting one. your best bet is to start buying hair products that promote curls, but if your hair is super straight, short of leaving curlers in your hair every single night and training your hair, you may never be able to go curly. Try volumizing products if your hair is thin and straight.

I have extremely frizzy, curly out of control hair that is very hard to manage when it is untreated. As of right now I got my hair cut after I had it chemically straightened. My ideal hair cut is like the link posted above except about 3 inches shorter so I can have a fohawk. The problem is that my frizzy hair are already growing out and if i cut it short the result would not look remotely close to what I want. My hair grows REALLY fast so chemically straightening and cutting it short would not last and would be pointless (not to mention how much money it would cost).

So my question is: how can I have a short hair and maintain it to be straight? I do not want to spend a long time straightening my hair with blow dryers and flat irons. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you!

The straightner you have may be the problem. If your parents let you, try to get a better hair iron. Chi for example would be a good straightener to get. Use anti frizz serums and heat protectant sprays. Always be patient and go slow when sliding the straightener through your hair. It never works well even with a good straightener to slide down too fast. As for scrunching your hair, you should get a scrunching mousse and right after you wash your hair, you should scruch your hair with a towel and then you could get a golf ball sized amount of mousse then put it in your hair, more at the tips, put your head down so that all of your hair is hanging down and just scrunch my pressing on them with your hands.

It may be your straighteners are not the best tupe. I have used various and it was only in getting some GHD ceramic straighteners that I was able to get pin straight hair.

You will be amazed, because the ceramic gets hotter it just glides through hair and makes it way straighter than other straighteners.

It sounds to me that you have 2 possible goals regarding your hair. The first is to achieve less "frizzy" hair and the second is a daily regimen which is easier than using a straightening iron daily.

Well, lets look at the extremes. The lesser degree is to learn to love your hair using a "flexible mousse" applied to wet hair and allowed to dry naturally. Alfaparf's Diamante mousse will work perfectly. The mousse isn't real expensive either. The mousse "bundles" 20 or more hairs together into clumps giving a more controlled curl/wave look to natural hair. This is the easiest and you would be amazed to know that many people pay hard earned dollars to get what you have naturally!!! The other extreme is a little known seldom done process outside Hollywood which is called the Japanese straightener. It will make your hair "pin straight" permanently! It involves a chemical relaxer and the ionic flat iron to achieve a "pin straight" effect. It is very expensive and takes about 4 hours to achieve. Once done, the hair can naturally dry from wet to a pin straight condition! That's right, no more ironing. Of course the hair will eventually grow out and be cut off bringing you back to that service again if you really like being "pin straight" all the time.

Somewhere in the middle is a care regimen that is priced more so to the every day process. It is not pin straight but it is not frizzy either! It involves using a very good moisturizing shampoo followed with a intensive deep conditioner pack. Alfaparf products have them in their Seduction line. Using these products as a daily routine and allowing the hair to "size" by drying naturally for the first 10 to 15 minutes is vital to success. If you are not too shy to put on a toboggan in that time frame, you can use the heat of your scalp and the pressure of the cap to assist in straightening out the frizz but not completely losing the hairs body. Once the hair is dry, you can run your fingers throught it to break it up and give a more tussled look to it. Keep in mind that your hairs frizziness will be more manageable with constant deep conditioning which builds up on the hair and helps to weigh it down enough so that it isn't explosively wild. You can adjust the conditioning routine when you achieve the "look" that you like best. Remember that naturally frizzy hair is very porous. If you use the cap and conditioner approach, then be sure to add mousse sparingly to the ends AFTER the hair is dry to ward off atmospheric moisture that can attack that new smoother look and make it begin to frizz again. If your hairline tends to frizz more than you like, use a tad of the mousse on the wet hairline on the scalp and roots. I hope this helped!

usually, shampoos which have a strong fragrant smell are not good for the hair. sunsilk has a strong fragrance, but pantene has a mild one. so, i would suggest that u go 4 pantene.

but, take ur beautician's advice b4 using pantene. it is a strong shampoo, its chemicals can make ur hair dry! still, it is better than sunsilk.

Autumn, It would be good to see it before I answer, but here goes. An Oval face is the "perfect" shaped face that can handle about anything. If you want to cut it, do it, but maybe only up to your shoulders and maybe since it is straight now, go with some layers and give it a little wave or curl to product volume with curling iron, hot rollers, or whatever. There is a site by Clairol that lets you try on different hairstyles and hair colors on your own picture (that you upload). It works great. I got a new hairstyle that way. It is less expensive than the Salon's computer program that you usually have to pay for. Good Luck !!!

Put the top half of your hair up into a bun.

Divide the bottom half of your hair into small, thin sections. For best results use sections that are 1-2 inches wide and only about 1/2 inch thick.

Spray the hair protective spray over the section of hair and run a comb through it to remove all knots. Hair without tangles will straighten better. The heat protective spray and the leave-in conditioner will usually help with tangles also.

Hold a section of hair with one hand and use the other to clamp the flat iron as close to your roots as possible. Hold the hair firmly in the flat iron.

Pull the flat iron over the small section of hair in one fluid movement. If it isn't completely straight, that's OK, pull it through again.

Don't move jerkily while pulling the flat iron through your hair. It will leave horizontal lines indented in your hair and you will need to go over the hair several more times to remove them.

Don't be alarmed if you see steam rising from the iron or a sizzling noise. The plates are very hot and there may be some moisture left from the wash in addition to the sprays. This is normal.

Continue to move around your head straightening small sections all the way around as you go. Then take down the rest of your hair, tie the bottom half, and straighten that portion.

Examine your work in a mirror to make sure you didn't miss any sections. Don't forget to check the back. Now is the time to go over any missed spots or any place that is particularly frizzy.

Play with your hair to style it. You may need to flat iron pulling the section in another direction to get it out of your face or to help it style a certain way.

Continue to style your hair but avoid spraying water or adding mousse. The water content will cause your hair to curl back up or frizz almost immediately.

Consider using a curling iron for adding subtle curls or just wear it straight. Use a hair spray for humidity if you live in a humid area. Your hair will be prone to frizz with the moisture in the air.

The suck the vitality from the hair leaving it permanently damaged. Kind of adds to that dry fly away curly look I guess. GEL: you could use a scrucnhing gel, pantene curl defining scrunching gel or garnier fructise wetlook gel

MOUSSE: garnier fructise curl-construct mousse, or any volumizing or culing mousse would work, i guess, but i got my best results w/ garnier

for both the gel and the mousse, after you shampoo and condition your hair, get out of the shower, brush it (wet), put some gle or mousse in your hand, rub your hands together, flip your head over, and run your hands through your hair so that the product is evenly distributed through your hair, then flip your head back over and scrunch your hair. it own't look very curly at first, but then when it dries, it should get curlier. if you have time, spray your hair w/ hairspray when you're done to keep the look in.

i don't like to use product in my hair too much b/c its not good for your hair and im worried that my hair will fall out if i use too many chemicals....so, sometimes, when i just use lotion to tame my frizz. i know, it sounds weird, but i was going out the other day and i had put my hair in french braids (o yea, that's another option, but don't take your hair out UNTIL YOUR HAIR IS DRy) but i took it out when it was still wet so it ended up superfrizzing and it looked bad. so i just took some lotion and smoothed it down. you could also put lotion in your hands and then twist 2 in sectioions in ur fingers to get culrs, it actually looks like i did it with a curling iron even tho its just my fingers =D anyway, i use oil of olay lotion b/c it doesn't leave a greasy feel and my hair is thin so i can't afford any grease on myhair. try a normal/thicker lotion if the oil of olay isn't strong enough. i use the pink one, original formula, plus, it smells nice

i realize that your question wanted to make straight hair cute but besides pinning it back w/ a cute clip and into a ponytail, unless your hair dries stick straight, i don't think you're going to have much luck with getting straight hair to look cute. try and go a little curly or wavy w/ the braids.
