Long thick straight hair?

What is a good cut for long, thick straight hair? My daughter ,12, doesnt want to do anything TO it...just brush and go. But its so heavy looking. It makes me think of horse hair, honestly. Any input is appreciated. It hangs below her shoulder blades.

Long thick straight hair?

Long thick straight hair is actually relatively uncommon, and it's hard for people who don't have it to understand what a hassle it can be if it the length is anything between short-David Bowie like cut that requires gells %26amp; mousse, and the long do-nothing styles as your daughter has.

there's lots of nice streachy headbands now that look good. also, the plastic headbands with the big pokey teeth actually work for long straight thick heavy hair--IF you put them with the teeth facing FORWARD, it will keep that heavy horsey hair off the face. Having the hair all in a slab is not bad, really, the mass effect of it is you can fling it over the shoulders and it sort of stays there at lest when still (like at a desk at school).

Trust me, shorter cuts if have heavy thick hair can backfire. Then it just slabs forward and won't stay out of the way, and annoying frustration the whole livelong day.

Be certain to AVOID layers as can't tie back, unless are really really long layers. Bangs are OK if she wants.

There are some hairdressers that specialize in long hair. If her hair concerns you this much, you may be willing to drop the dough for a high priced cut %26amp; then all the compliments that flow in will change her opinion.

But mama, what's the rush? She's not unhappy with it. She's only 12 yrs old. I'd say chill. The more you push it the more she'll dig in. I'll bet you in 2 years, a mere 730 days, she'll change her tune.

And what's wrong with horses anyway?

Thank you Donna, my point exactly ;) Report It

Ask for long, visible layers. I have long thick hair and recently got them done. Your hairdresser will know what you are talking about. Tell her you want to get rid of the bulk but still keep the length.

Long thick straight hair?

get layers

Long thick straight hair?

try giving a layered look or long bangs that sweep across her forehead. if she wont cut it, then try getting her to braid it or just put it in a pony tail. it's simple and easy.

Long thick straight hair?

since she likes her length, take her to thin out her hair. her head will feel so much lighter and it'll look 10 times nicer. try to convince her into thinning it out. if she doesnt coroperate tell her none of the celeberties have thick hair, say it will make her look prettier.

Long thick straight hair?

She's very lucky to have the hair she does. Perhaps she considers it her best feature, and, I don't expect Best Answer for this, but, you should let her keep it for her self esteem, if she likes it.

Long thick straight hair?

well go to the hair salon and get it washed and straightened!for a cut you might want to get it layered and definitely thinned out!!!hopefully it helps!!!

Long thick straight hair?

Tell her to go for choppy layers. I have somewhat thick hair and I got layered hair that ended just below my shoulders. It takes of a LOT of the weight of your hair and it's really in right now so she should go for it. Make sure she gets the top layers no shorter than her bottom lip, or it will look too shaggy and she won't be able to out it up in a pony tail (if she does that). Tell her it's time for a change anyway, too. I recommend over the rainbow....do you have one nearby? It's a great place...expensive though...so an alternative might be hair cuttery, they're always good too.

good luck and I hope this helped!

Sounds like she does not have her hair layered. Try layering it. It does wonders for just the flat look. She can fluff it by running her fingers through her hair and shaking it. With the warmer weather she will also find it refreshing. If she has a little natural curl to her hair she can even add a little mousse to control frizz and give it another look.
