My hair is semi-thick, and quite annoying at the back and side, as they are the only parts that seems to curl up. I want to make it straight, without using anything that can damage your hair, I was thinking of doing the permanent chemical straightening, but I don't know, and I heard that hair specialists can make your hair straight for a few weeks, my hair is shoulder length, and I would like to make it look straight.

there's this stuff out - i think i actually saw in in an avon catalogue - its a cream and you put it through your hair and use your hands like you would a straightner - without the heat or anything! you straighten you hair with your hands when you use this cream its kinda cool

Honestly, I can't think of anything that will make your hair straight without damaging your hair. Relaxing or straighting your hair is all I can think of.

chemically straigtening?? thats WAY worse than using a flat iron. all you have to do is go out and get a hair protector spray, like a v05 one is fine, or go to a salon or store and ask them what kind of hair protector to get before you straiten your hair. you just spray the stuff in while your hairs wet, comb it thru and then straiten

Use a perm or blow dryer. If you a perm you'll need another one when your hair grows, cause it'll curly and the rest will be straight. If you blow it straight you have it blow it straight often.

I get the chemical straightening. I had very wavy hair, and I always had my hair long. This would play bad tricks and look a mess most of the time. The only thing that worked for me was the chemical straightening, and since the hair is actually easier to handle now(no need for the blow drying, ironing, products, etc...) my hair has actually become healthier since(I do use a leave-in conditioner too). It seems to last for at least 1-3 months, and by then it's time to get the hair cut anyway.

well if you have only these options you should not consider using a relaxer it will damage your hair a lot. I did it when i was younger and do regreat it.

I think using a straightener is better.

I actually use a straightner on my hair, It does seem to fry it up, But if thats the way you will be wearing it all the time, Then dont worry about it. Here is some tips to help you out.

-Blow dry your hair inward with a circle brush while you are drying your hair.

-Use plenty of conditioner when washing your hair.

-Find a spray/shampoo/etc thats works best on your hair.

(I use herbal ess. dangerously straight 2 in 1)

But it is really hard to get those little side hair and back hair without a straightener.

As well I got my hair "razor cut" it helped alot, and my hair is much thinner than it was.

i had the same probleeem....my hair goes all the way to my butt..its pretty long..straightening it with a hair straightner did no good...i got the japanese style straightening which only cost $250 and my hair is as straight as when i sit there for 5 hours with a flat iron only it doenst get poofy when its humid or curl up again...its worth it and its not as damaging. its once every 9 months or so because your hair will grow out from the roots and your natural hair will show at your roots but the rest of it wont go back..it will be like that from then on..the chemical doesnt wear off...if you need more info let me know and ill tell you...

If your hair is shoulder length or longer you can make it straighter by placing scrunchies down the length of a wet pony tail and leave it until it dries.
