Why is it so wrong to not have straight hair?

I'm biracial so I have a mixture of textures in my hair. Personally, I couldn't careless about my hair... but everyone is telling me to get it straightened, blah blah. Why are people in this country so obsessed with straight hair? My hair looks perfectly fine that way that it is, but in America, it's ugly. I'm not talking about just curls, I'm talking about big hair that most biracial kids have. And it offends me when someone of another race says that biracials/I have kinky hair or whatever, our hair is not kinky.

Maybe someone should start having salons just for biracial people. Most people have no idea what to do with our hair anyway.

I agree, nobody knows what to do with our hair. It seems like every time I go to a salon, they ruin it! They don't understand that the curls in some parts can be tighter or coarser than in others, and they treat it like plain old straight hair. But people in general seem to love the idea of curls, especially the kind that biracial people have. Maybe the reason they keep telling you to straighten it is because it's a little wild and frizzy? A good moisturizing conditioner and a leave-in treatment might be what you need (L'Occitane's Angelica Shampoo and Conditioner both work really well for my hair, Carol's Daughter products are good for styling). If that's not the problem, just ignore them. And either find a trusted stylist, or learn to cut your own hair (it can be done), because split ends make curls look and feel terrible.

I don't think its bad to have hair that isn't straight. You've got to work with what you've got. Its good that you like it so it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Don't worry about what other people have to say especially about your hair. Love your hair no matter what. Embrace it. I have curly hair and I love it. Being unique is the key in beauty.

I agree with you. It looks cute.

Why is it so wrong to not have straight hair?

No way, there's nothing wrong with not having straight hair!! In Hawaii, we KNOW "biracial." The thing is that everyone here is of a mixed race, so its just natural and normal that some people have more than curly/bushy whatever hair.

Don't let it get to you! Your hair fine the way it is, you could just flatiron it every day...it won't keep it permanently straightened like a salon straightened and it won't stay completely flat. So it's kind of like a hair compromise?

Big hair = beautiful!

Why is it so wrong to not have straight hair?

If you love your hair; keep it.

It'll give you a unique look, and some people out there REALLY love the whole biracial look (I quite like it sometimes). Do what YOU want.

Why is it so wrong to not have straight hair?

because north america is insecure and image obsessed. think of it, people pay 60bucks plus for a stupid looking hoodie with a logo. back to hair.

listen, i'm polish/hungarian with wavy hair -- i'd never trust a white american hairdresser. best hair cut i had was from this italian dude, or my sister. last thing i'd ever want to see is a planetary invasion of britney/paris look alikes (who are both quite ugly, and have very little asthetic taste).

girls who look good in their own way, are iteligent and cultured are damn hot. none of this cookie cutter hollywood garbage. oh yeah, keep the fro -- lots of guys like it.

Why is it so wrong to not have straight hair?

it is your hair and you have the right to have it styled anyway you like.. if you feel comfortable with your present hair style.. continue with it.. no point making people happy with your hair but not you yourself.. god bless..
